Match Report: BUFC Women RED vs Harpenden Town Women

Coach Ash Pead praised the way his team improved on the first week after Biggleswade United Women Reds team narrowly lost to Harpenden in the league match at Verdant Stadium on Sunday.

Visitors took the lead after Reds seemed to stop following the course action after face injury of one of the players.

Harpenden used this situation to score with a clinical finish.

Yet another goal for Harpenden came soon after and they secured 2:0 lead at the half-time.
It was completely different performance from the home side in the second half. It was a significant improvement in the game and especially in the amount of created chances.

Finally the goal came for the hosts as Lauren Wyatt put her name on the score sheet. She found the net following very well execution of corner kick by one of the teammates.

Set pieces have created few good chances for the home side, but BUFC Women Reds were unlucky with shots on two occasions hitting the crossbar.

Pead said: “It’s a bit of a tough loss to take. We were punished in the first half for two mistakes, but reacted well in a second half.

“Two chances have come off the crossbar, we had plenty of other opportunities to score.
“But you can’t afford to go 2:0 down in the games, and at this level when you give away chances, you’re being punished.

“That being said, Rachel was absolutely fantastic and she kept us in the game when we were hit on the counter attack.”
Biggleswade managed to equalise towards the end of the game, but their goal was unfortunately disallowed for the offside.

The whole team can be proud of themselves for very solid second half performance.

Red’s team head coach was happy from how the team have reacted and made a significant progress after last week’s performance. There are a lot of positives to take from the match. It looks promising going forward for BUFC Women Reds team.
He said: “It’s a massive improvement on the first week.

“With more people coming in next week, it will be the same again.
“It’s going to take a little bit of time, with a lot of young and unexperienced players at this level. “But it will get there, we just need to keep pushing.”

The chance to bounce back after this hard to take defeat will come on Sunday, 10 September, when BUFC Women Reds will face Stevenage FC Women at Verdant Stadium.
